Be Your Own Boss - Kora Wigire Project

Empowering Rwandan youth and women through entrepreneurship and financial independence

In partnership with The Youth Empowerment for Global Opportunities (YEGO centers), Employment Service Centers, and Youth Friendly centres), the Be Your Own Boss – Iga Wigire Project is a groundbreaking initiative designed to empower Rwandan youth and women by fostering entrepreneurship and financial independence.

Rooted in the overarching vision of the National Strategy for Transformation (NST2) 2024-2029, this project is a strategic response to the nation's need for inclusive economic growth, skills development, and sustainable job creation. By focusing on equipping participants with entrepreneurial skills, practical knowledge, and access to vital resources, the initiative paves the way for a new generation of self-reliant individuals poised to drive Rwanda's economic transformation.

Project Vision and Impact

At its core, the Iga Wigire Project aims to address the pressing issue of unemployment among Rwandan youth, a demographic that forms the backbone of the country's workforce. By empowering these young people to create their own businesses, the program not only improves individual livelihoods but also contributes to community development and national prosperity.

Each entrepreneur supported by the program is envisioned to create at least three additional jobs, thus amplifying the impact and ensuring that the benefits extend beyond the participants themselves.

This approach directly aligns with Vision 2050, which seeks to build a knowledge-based economy and create a competitive workforce capable of thriving in a globalized market.

Innovative Program Delivery

The program's unique design ensures accessibility and inclusivity by leveraging diverse delivery channels:

  • Interactive Live Shows: Engaging programming on BTN TV that brings entrepreneurial education directly to participants
  • Ahupa Visual Radio: Accessible content delivery through radio, reaching even remote communities
  • Online Learning Platform: Self-paced training modules via www.ahupa.academy for flexible learning
  • Hands-on Training: Customized "Be Your Own Boss" and work readiness training sessions
  • Business Support: Comprehensive coaching, mentorship, and linkages to finance and markets

Strategic Alignment

This blended learning approach ensures that participants from various backgrounds, including those in rural or underserved areas, can access and benefit from the program. These components address critical barriers to entrepreneurial success and help participants build sustainable ventures.

Aligned with the NST2 economic transformation and social transformation pillars, the project promotes job creation, reduces inequality, and strengthens partnerships across the public and private sectors.

"By addressing youth unemployment and fostering entrepreneurial capacity, the Be Your Own Boss – Iga Wigire Project serves as a catalyst for achieving Rwanda's ambitious development goals and building an empowered, economically independent population."
